Overview

WordTree (“we,” “us,” or “our”) operates the website wordtree.xyz. This page describes what data we collect, why, and how it is used.

Data We Collect

  • Session token — a randomly generated identifier stored in your browser’s local storage. It is used solely to prevent replaying the daily puzzle and to associate leaderboard entries. It is not linked to any personal information.
  • Leaderboard name — the display name you voluntarily enter after completing a game. This is shown publicly on the leaderboard.
  • Game results — your score, words completed, and mode selection for the current day.

Cookies & Local Storage

WordTree itself does not set tracking cookies. We use browser local storage to persist your session token, game results, and preferences (e.g., hard mode).

However, our advertising partner Google AdSense does set cookies on the wordtree.xyz domain (and may read related identifiers) in order to serve, measure, and (where permitted) personalize ads. Other third-party vendors or ad networks served through AdSense may also use cookies, web beacons, or similar technologies for the same purposes.

Third-Party Services

We use Google AdSense to display advertisements. Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on a user’s prior visits to this or other websites. For more information on how Google uses data when you use our site, please visit How Google uses information from sites or apps that use our services.

You can opt out of personalized advertising at Google Ads Settings. For a one-stop opt-out covering many other third-party vendors and ad networks, see the Network Advertising Initiative (NAI) opt-out page and the Digital Advertising Alliance (DAA) opt-out page.

Users in the EEA, UK, and Switzerland

If you are visiting from the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, or Switzerland, Google’s certified Consent Management Platform will present a consent prompt before personalized ads are shown. You may grant or refuse consent for specific purposes (such as personalized advertising and measurement) from that prompt, and you can revisit your choices at any time via the same prompt.

Data Sharing

We do not sell or share your data with third parties beyond what is described above (ad serving by Google and its ad-tech partners through AdSense).

Children’s Privacy

WordTree is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

Changes

We may update this policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated date.
